A message from new JL Mann wrestling coach, Tim Morrissey.

We are turning over a new leaf, new leadership, new coaching philosophy: focus on the basics of movement, positioning, and fitness (strength / conditioning).
- There is a major connection between Football and Wrestling – examples include:
· Ray Lewis from FL one of best LB in NFL history
· Stephen Neal – never played FB in college but was a 2X National Champion, drafted by NE Patriots, SuperBowl Champ.
· Roddy White - 2X State Champ wrestler in SC for N. Myrtle Beach attributes much of his success in the NFL to his wrestling training.
· Football players can stay active, lift weights and NOT have to lose weight in the offseason,
· AND for you C-Team and D-Team players, you will be a stronger competitors, better contributor for Coach Strikland when you know how to wrestler-
· The definition of “wrestle” is “to struggle” – through “struggle” comes refinement of skills, a physical and mental toughness that creates a certain “edge” all of which are components a great competitor.
- While wrestling is a combat sport, the rules in place make it one of the safer sports offered in High School.
· Hand to hand combat is vitally important in Football, in Military and Law Enforcement training - is a bedrock of what you learn in my wrestling room.
- Wrestling helps keep the School as a whole safer by reducing bullying, increase self-confidence and self-control and self-defense.
- My personal philosophy includes training young men to channel their strengths and abilities in a positive way, which positively represents the sport, school, and community
- Join us for 1-2 practices, just to try it out, you will never know until you give it a try. Each person will be sure to learn more about himself.
