In the Mauldin Cup week-end tournament Les Bleus defeated Greenville Tech Charter 5 -1, lost to TR 0 - 2 but finished the tournament with a 1 – 0 victory over Spartanburg.
If you missed the Mann v Mauldin re-match, you missed a very hard fought and exciting contest between two top ranked sides. In spite of some awesome passing and laser shots on goal, the match remained scoreless through the first half. Mauldin struck first in the second half with a perfect cross to the back post and header into the net. A few minutes later Mann was able to tie the score. The 1 – 1 game went to the standard two 5 min. overtime periods where Les Bleus was able to score twice sealing a 3 – 1 Mann victory.

Dorman was more than an equal match for Mann. The score was 0 – 0 throughout most of the decidedly defensive duel. Finally with 14 min. left to play, a Dorman attacker broke free to head a long ball over the Mann keeper’s out-stretched hands and into the goal. Mann could not respond. Dorman wins1-0.
Friday Les Bleus traveled to Boiling Springs to bring home a 4 – 1 victory. JV excelled by 2 – 1. Make plans to see Les Bleus (7-2), (3-1) take on dangerous Riverside on Thursday,3/31.
Boys Soccer 3/19/11
The battle with Mauldin was epic and exciting. They came out on fire, launching wave after wave of attacks. The first 30 minutes saw Mann with their backs against their goal frantically trying to keep the ball away. At that point it was easy to imagine Mann being 2 or 3 goals down by half time. In spite of Mauldin’s continuous barrage Mann’s defense did not yield. nil – nil half time. While Mann was making copious substitutions throughout the game from their deep and talented bench, Mauldin made only a rare one or two. In the second half that strategy begin to pay dividends. Slowly Les Bleus turned the tide to become the aggressor. Over the last 10 minutes of play the Patriots had the fresher legs and Mauldin was flagging. Mann determinedly took the offensive, with 2 minutes remaining finally GOOOOOAL ! 1 – 0 hard fought victory for Mann !!!! The JV easily took care of Maverick’s business 3 – 0.
At Sirrine Stadium even the luck of the Irish couldn’t compensate for the mediocre effort by the Patriots and the superior teamwork, energy, and boisterous fan support of Greenville. The final result was the first defeat for Les Bleus in penalty kicks after a 1-1 tie in regulation and overtime. The JV needed no luck at all in easily dispatching the lost Raiders 5 - 0.
A 2 - 0 win over Byrnes Friday gave Les Bleus a 2 – 0 conference record setting up an early season showdown for conference leader with undefeated Dorman Monday, 3/21(at Mann). The JV boys squashed the B. Rebels 5 – 1.
Boys Soccer 3/11/11
first ever 4A conference match, Mann easily rolled over the Hillcrest Rams coasting to 5 – 0 victory. JV needed more gas to win by 4 – 3. Eastside and Boiling Springs matches were rained out.
Friday match at TR for has been moved to 3/25 due to field conditions.
We really need your vocal support Monday, 3/14, when Les Bleus take on SC 3rd ranked Mauldin at home. Should be an exciting match. Mann is on the road at Greenville on Thurs. and Friday at Byrnes.
BOYS SOCCER : 3/5/11
In the first round of the Byrnes HS pre-season tournament, Mann survived a late comeback from 2 goals down by 15th ranked Wren to win in penalty kicks getting a game-saving goal line stand by senior goalie, Bennett Kinney. The “Blue” had a much easier time the second round against York winning 4 – 0. In the final against Clover Mann took advantage of two 40 yd free kicks late in the game to put two balls in the net to win 2 – 0.
Monday, 3/7, Mann will welcome Hillcrest at home in the first conference game of the season. Wednesday will see Mann in a classic reprise of last year’s up-state finals against no. 1 ranked (3A) Eastside on their field.

ALUMNI GAME
The varsity welcomed back a team of alumni soccer players Saturday night for a Mannly reunion on the field. The 24 man alumni squad was up to the challenge, finally regaining they soccer legs in tying up the score 4 – 4 in the final seconds of regulation. A tie was fitting since both the current and the older Mann sides also shared equally in the fun, fellowship, and mutual appreciation afforded by this competition which thrilled 150+ fans, friends, and parents. Many of the alums played on the 1999 and 2010 state championship teams. This first annual return of many of Mann’s most decorated past players testifies to their love of playing the “beautiful game” that endures well after their high school years. Many thanks to the alumni men and to coach Karl for putting it all together.
In the last of this year’s pre-season contests, the Mann boys will be defending their 2010 championship status in the annual Byrnes HS tournament. Two 5:30 games, Thursday against Wren on Mar. 3 and then versus York the next day could send Mann back to finals with its arch rival Riverside on Saturday. Keep your fingers crossed.
2/22/2011
In a second pre-season scrimmage St. Joseph scored on two quick counter attacks to best the Patriots 2 -1. The Mann coaches continue to field all 25 varsity players each scrimmage in a search for the best combination of talent and teamwork before season start. The Mann alumni game will be Saturday Feb 26 at 7 pm against many of last year’s state championship team graduates who are now playing for their college teams. This should be a fun(d) challenge for this year’s young team.
